Embattled electric car manufacturer Tesla Inc. (TSLA) has just received some welcome endorsement on social media from one of America’s favorite celebrities.
Rapper and entrepreneur Kanye West broke his nearly one-year silence on Twitter over the weekend. After posting some random messages reflecting his current state of mind, fashion pictures and news on his upcoming album, West began shouting out Tesla and the company’s CEO Elon Musk.
The 21-time Grammy winner referenced Tesla in four separate tweets, starting with the following message: “I really love my Tesla. I’m in the future. Thank you Elon.“
West then raved about Tesla cars being “really good for the environment” and described the Tesla P100D Model S he owns with his wife Kim Kardashian as “the funnest car I’ve ever driven.” The rapper also referenced Musk’s recent mission to launch one of Tesla’s cars into space, tweeting: “I'm super chaaaaaarged. Bout to take this whole thing to Mars.”
Musk, who used a super rocket to send one of his cars into orbit around Mars in February, retweeted two of Kanye's tweets from his own account.(See also: Elon Musk's SpaceX to Launch World's Most Powerful Rocket Today.)
West’s admiration of Musk appears to be mutual. In 2015, Tesla’s CEO spoke highly of the rapper in Time Magazine. Then, earlier this year, the tech mogul said at a conference that West is “obviously'' his inspiration.
West isn’t the first celebrity to offer his opinion on Tesla and Musk. Talk show host Stephen Colbert, an owner of one of the company’s electric vehicles, invited Musk to be one of the first guests on his show. During the subsequent interview, Colbert described Musk as “king nerd.”
Other celebrities have been less flattering. In a 2013 interview with Esquire, actor George Clooney said he got rid of his Tesla car because it didn’t impress him. (See also: Is Tesla 'Too Big to Fail'? Morgan Stanley Says Yes.)
