He started his retail career in 1975 with a department store chain called Bullock's and worked with Neiman Marcus in the 1980s before spending more than 36 years at Macy's.

Karen M. Hoguet
Karen M. Hoguet has been the chief financial officer (CFO) of Macy's since 1997. She came to Macy's after leaving Boston Consulting Group in 1982. Hoguet joined Macy's as a senior consultant in marketing and long-range planning.
Hoguet got her undergraduate degree from Brown University in 1978 and received her MBA from Harvard University in 1980.
Directly holding 50,335 shares and indirectly holding 3,204 shares as of April 6, 2018, Hoguet is the second-largest shareholder of Macy's. She also has an option to acquire 442,780 more shares.
Jeffrey Gennette
Jeffrey Gennette is the chair of Macy's board of directors and chief executive officer, a position he has held since the retirement of former CEO Terry Lundgren in 2017. Gennette started his career with Macy's in 1983 as an executive trainee.
Gennette has since worked his way up to the top job over more than three decades. He graduated from Stanford University with an English degree.
Gennette is the third-largest shareholder of the company, directly holding 99,053 shares and indirectly holding 3,642 shares as of April 12, 2018. He also has options to acquire 395,848 more shares.
