Venezuela Trade & Investment Summary

U.S. goods and services trade with Venezuela totaled an estimated $4.3 billion in 2022. Exports were $3.8 billion; imports were $504 million. The U.S. goods and services trade surplus with Venezuela was $3.3 billion in 2022.

U.S. goods exports to Venezuela in 2022 were $2.2 billion, up 35.8 percent ($578 million) from 2021 but down 87 percent from 2012. U.S. goods imports from Venezuela totaled $413 million in 2022, up 40.0 percent ($118 million) from 2021, but down 99 percent from 2012.  The U.S. goods trade surplus with Venezuela was $1.8 billion in 2022, a 34.9 percent increase ($460 million) over 2021.

U.S. exports of services to Venezuela were an estimated $1.6 billion in 2022, 6.7 percent ($100 million) more than 2021, and 77 percent less than 2012 levels. U.S. imports of services from Venezuela were an estimated $91 million in 2022, 11.7 percent ($12 million) less than 2021, but 83 percent less than 2012 levels. Leading services exports from the U.S. to Venezuela were in the travel, Personal, cultural and recreational services, and transportation sectors. The United States had a services trade surplus of an estimated $1.5 billion with Venezuela in 2022, up 8.0 percent from 2021.

U.S. foreign direct investment (FDI) in Venezuela (stock) was $3.2 billion in 2022, a 5.1 percent increase from 2021. U.S. direct investment in Venezuela is led by manufacturing, nonbank holding companies, and wholesale trade.

Venezuela's FDI in the United States (stock) was $3.0 billion in 2022, up 180.1 percent from 2021.
